Imagine a Civil Rights Bill

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Apparently not. One hundred fifty years ago, our Constitution, less than 8 decades old, was amended to include black men as being ‘created equal.’ Of course, Native Americans were still being sent to reservations far from their birthplace.

Further, women in America were not ‘created equal’ and had to wait until 1920 to equally enter the polling booth with her husband.

Yet blacks were summarily denied that stroll to the voting booth for another 45 years as they faced a myriad of obstacles in the former Confederate States. They were not permitted the ‘freedom’ to eat, sleep or use the toilet of their choice either.

People with disabilities and gays and lesbians had to wait many more years before their rights were recognized. Just yesterday working women were denied guaranteed equal pay at their workplace.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…

  1. Blocked in Senate by Republican filibuster threat and voted down by Republican majority House.

    I’ve read all kinds of things about this bill, including many reports of lies spread by Fox News. I even read that it was confused with the “bathroom” bill.

Well, two computers down…This old dell is running, but extremely slow, the lap top is at the repair shop, my car was broken into and wallet stolen which entailed all sorts of replacement headaches, my faithful companion of 15 years nearly died but the vets pulled him through at $485, and the window that the robber broke oto get into the car cost $165 for a new one. Now where did I put my blood pressure meds, lol….

    1. Yes, it’s about statistics and there are times when we wonder what it’s all about. Then we catch sight of a rainbow or smell a flower or your dog likes your hand or you see a little kid skipping down the street…
