Libertarian and general kook Rand Paul warned that Texas could turn blue in 10 years unless the GOP becomes more diverse. More diverse, he said. I bet that didn’t go over too well in Houston at a dinner with GOP Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. I’m betting that his audience was far from diverse. And what were they thinking at that remark? ‘Who? Us?’
Just in case you forgot or hadn’t noticed, for the past year the GOP has been actively recruiting a more diverse membership into their party. What? You weren’t aware? You didn’t notice? You didn’t see that outreach program in action?
Well neither did the rest of us. Nonetheless, presidential hopeful Rand would like to see the ranks of the GOP swell by 2016 when he runs. GOP Outreach 2.0. Look at how simple the task is according to Rand. “That doesn’t mean we give up on what we believe in, but it means we have to be a more welcoming party,” Paul said.
So the formula for Outreach 2.0 is not to change what they believe in, just welcome more people into that set of ideologies. Clear. Simple. Sounds a whole lot like 1.0.
Oh well, sorry to disappoint you with this tantalizing political tidbit. I hope that I didn’t raise your blood pressure in anticipation of something new from the ‘new’ Republican Party.
