Mrs. God

For eons Mr. God has seemingly been quite alone in his heavenly realm. Bachelor pad. Lonely bedroom. His “son” too. Whoa! Yes Son. No wife either, unless the evangelists edited her out. Mary of Magdala??

But wait! Mrs. God may not have been lost at all. Rumor has it that she has been there all along but the male censors turned her into a tree.  Yes, a tree! Reminds me of those witches and wizards of yore.

So, who is she? She goes by the name of Asherah, aka Astarte and Istar. Here is information from NewsDiscovery:

“After years of research specializing in the history and religion of Israel, however, I have come to a colorful and what could seem, to some, uncomfortable conclusion that God had a wife,” said Francesca Stavrakopoulou, a senior lecturer in the department of Theology and Religion at the University of Exeter.

Stavrakopoulou bases her theory on ancient texts, amulets and figurines unearthed primarily in the ancient Canaanite coastal city called Ugarit, now modern-day Syria. All of these artifacts reveal that Asherah was a powerful fertility goddess.

Asherah’s connection to Yahweh, according to Stavrakopoulou, is spelled out in both the Bible and an 8th century B.C. inscription on pottery found in the Sinai desert at a site called Kuntillet Ajrud.

“The inscription is a petition for a blessing,” she shares. “Crucially, the inscription asks for a blessing from ‘Yahweh and his Asherah.’ Here was evidence that presented Yahweh and Asherah as a divine pair. And now a handful of similar inscriptions have since been found, all of which help to strengthen the case that the God of the Bible once had a wife.”

So, where did she go, one might ask? Edited out by misogynistic males. They may have also been the ones who made Eve the fall-girl in the Eden fantasy. The article states that Asherah as a tree symbol was even said to have been “chopped down and burned outside the Temple in acts of certain rulers who were trying to ‘purify’ the cult, and focus on the worship of a single male god, Yahweh.”

Chopped down.

More biblical violence, as usual.

  1. Maybe Melissa Harris-Perry thinks she’s funny. Sunday, her show, really not news any more in the traditional form of Cronkite or Huntley-Brinkley you know, had a segment about the Romney holiday card. It’s a card with all
the grandchildren. Sitting on Romney’s knee is the most recent addition to
the family, a recently adopted black baby. H-P decides to have fun with
the card ans suggests giving a title to the card. “The Token” is given. They all giggle and laugh. How immoral and unscrupulous and insensitive. The song from Sesame Street was sung, “One of these things is not like the others, and one of these things just doesn’t belong!” How revolting! A baby
is a :thing” for H-P? Another person commented that the card sums up the
Republican Party of finding one black person. Well, at least the baby is a person in this suggestion. And then some one says the card is “racism”.

Shame on Melissa Harris-Perry. Instead of encouraging such speech and laughing with it, she should have stopped the show, demanded apologizes
from people, sent them packing, and apologized for having the stupidity of
    having the segment.

Adoptive parents are racist. Am I racist for working with minority children,
for providing foster care for black handicapped child, for providing educational service ti native American children? What you think M_R?

      1. Don’t you think that segment was hateful? Adoption is bad? a black child
is a token? Adoption was done to symbolize the GOP? What are your
leftist blinders not seeing? Just as Martin Beshear was fired from MSNBC,
MH-P should too. I would thnink that any mixed adoptive family would be
outraged to let her continue asking for hateful comments about race
        and adoptive families.
