Stuff happens.  Here’s some stuff that has been going on since my last post.

• The GOP contenders are now fighting in the home of the first state to secede from the Union.  South Carolina has become THE state to win in the primary.  What does that say about the state of affairs of the Republican Party?

• Joe the Plumber made his first primary appearance as a GOP hopeful for the House of Representatives. Forty people showed up at a retirement home in a small suburban village. Wow.

• Warren Buffet made a wager with the GOP to help pay down the debt, offering a 1:1 match or a 1:2 match for Mitch McConnell.  Not surprisingly, no  Republican took him up on it.

• A political pundit wondered why GOP Evangelicals never talk about Matthew 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

• Joe Scarborough said, ” If President Obama says this in his State of the Union Speech, it’s game over: To Harry Reid and John Boehner: Vote up or down on the Bolles-Simpson proposal.”

• Israeli terrorists obviously blew up the auto of an Iranian nuclear scientist. They hope Iran will do something to retaliate so that the U.S. becomes involved in the mess. Will we be dumb enough to do that?

  1. “Will we be dumb enough to do that?”
It’s an election year, and the President is in difficulties. And, this is the
” real evil empire”, the recent words of Santorum. And, just the
news today is that Sec. Clinton issued a “red line” warning to Iran
concerning the Straits of Hormuz. And, this is something that perhaps
is not able to be controlled by the Supreme Leader. A rogue Revolutionary
Guard commander could be a “lone agent” and act without authority, and
    there we would be.

  2. NON- I just got this email this morning. Make you to read all the way to the bottom of message. This is the stuff they’re spewing now:

    MY NOTE:
I have heard Dr. Williams many a time on talk radio and he is for REAL!

wE Really need to think about this. We need to pray really hard about this situation. I sure would not want this to happen.

    Very scary stuff…
IF THIS DOESN’T SCARE YOU, NOTHING WILL! I am familiar with Dr. Williams and he is a good conservative. I can’t disagree with his premise’s listed below.

DR. WILLIAMS predicts that Obama can not lose the 2012 election.

    Dr. Williams prediction:
Maybe you have read some newspaper articles written by Dr. Williams,
a conservative economist who happens to be black.
He has taught at several Universities and is currently teaching at George Mason University .

    No Matter What
    By Dr. Walter Williams

Can President Obama be defeated in 2012? No. He can’t.
I am going on record as saying that President Barak Obama will win a second term.

The media won’t tell you this because a good election campaign means hundreds of millions
(or in Obama’s case billions) of dollars to them in advertising revenues.

But the truth is, there simply are no conditions under which Barak Obama can be defeated in 2012.
The quality of the Republican candidate doesn’t matter. Obama gets reelected.
Nine percent unemployment? No problem. Obama will win.
Gas prices moving toward five dollars a gallon? He still wins.
The economy soars or goes into the gutter. Obama wins.
War in the Middle East ? He wins a second term.

America’s role as the leading Superpower disappears? Hurrah for Barak Obama!
The US government rushes toward bankruptcy, the dollar continues to sink on world markets
and the price of daily goods and services soars due to inflation,
fueled by Obama’s extraordinary deficit spending? Obama wins handily.

You are crazy Williams. Don’t you understand how volatile politics can be
when overall economic, government, and world conditions are declining? Sure I do.
And that’s why I know Obama will win.
The American people are notoriously ignorant of economics.
And economics is the key to why Obama should be defeated.

Even when Obama’s policies lead the nation to final ruin,
the majority of the American people are going to believe
the bait-and-switch tactics Obama and his supporters in the media will use,
to explain why it isn’t his fault.
After all, things were much worse than understood when he took office.

Obama’s reelection is really a very, very simple math problem.
    Consider the following:

    1) Blacks will vote for Obama blindly. Period.
Doesn’t matter what he does. It’s a race thing. He’s one of us.

    2) College educated women will vote for Obama.
Though they will be offended by this, they swoon at his oratory.
It’s really not more complex than that.
    3) Liberals will vote for Obama. He is their great hope.

    4) Democrats will vote for Obama.
He is the leader of their party and his coattails will carry them to victory nationwide.

    5) Hispanics will vote for Obama. He is the path to citizenship for those who are illegal
and Hispanic leaders recognize the political clout they carry in the Democratic Party.

    6) Union members will vote overwhelmingly for Obama.
He is their key to money and power in business, state and local politics,

    7) Big Business will support Obama. They already have.
He has almost $1 Billion dollars in his reelection purse,
gained largely from his connections with Big Business and is gaining more everyday.
Big Business loves Obama because he gives them access to taxpayer money,
so long as they support his social and political agenda.

    8) The media love him. They may attack the people who work for him, but they love him.
After all, to not love him would be racist,

    9) Most other minorities and special interest groups will vote for him.
Oddly, the overwhelming majority of Jews and Muslims will support him,
because they won’t vote Republican. American Indians will support him.
Obviously homosexuals tend to vote Democratic.
    And lastly…

    10) Approximately half of independents will vote for Obama.
And he doesn’t need anywhere near that number because he has all of the groups previously mentioned.
The President will win an overwhelming victory in 2012.

    Obituary-Very Interesting!
    Born 1776, Died 2008

It doesn’t hurt to read this several times.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St.. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Obama:19 McCain: 29

Square miles of land won by: Obama:580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Obama:127 million McCain: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: “In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements
and living off various forms of government welfare…”

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the “complacency and apathy” phase of Professor Tyler’s definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation’s population already having reached the “governmental dependency” phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal’s
    – and they vote –
then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

Obama has been building his army since 2007 and most of us are actually in denial that any one person would seek to destroy our Nation. What we don’t realize is this: Obama was the chosen one to carry out the plans for the “Radicals.” In 2007, he openly sold his soul to the “devil” by offering the SEIU members the dream of owning a president. Obama and friends have solicited millions of Americans of all ages and walks of life for his army and we’re in deep trouble, because this group of people are incapable of making wise decisions; they’re merely followers…
Democrats have brainwashed young voters, the leaders of tomorrow, into thinking that mindless hype and bandwagon activities will somehow make them credible citizens. How sad that they want only a ‘hand-out’ of what a free market will provide rather than being ‘helped up’ to their own prosperity. Democrats need to stop playing Robin Hood with other peoples’ money and create some of their own. There’s lots of opportunity out there.
“We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty
rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that
each individual is accountable for his actions.”
    Ronald Reagan

This is definitely worth taking the time to read!

If this isn't an example of the dumbing of America, I don't know what is. And the email is from one of them good church-goin' folks!

    1. Dumbing down or fear mongering? Or them v. us.

It is interesting to note some history, historical anthropology to be exact. When boatloads of people left the ‘Old World’ in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, they brought with them their ethnic histories: their tribal fears, tribal boundaries. Many continued these histories here in the Land of the Free while in their ghettos, but after venturing out, realized that ‘the other’ was not necessarily the enemy. The Melting Pot began to cook.

However, the tribal instincts were not completely lost, and bigotry remains, simmering rather than boiling. The Jew, the Muslim, the gay or lesbian, blacks, Mexicans and foreign-born are still objects of ridicule here in the Land of the Free. The email above is clearly an attempt to fire-up the simmering prejudices in order to pit ‘then’ against ‘us.’

The far-right wing, of course, stokes its own fires of bigotry and hate, and thoroughly enjoys the ‘them v us’ tribal warfare. On a side note, look how well the right-wing was propagandized by Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld into a flag-waving furor to attack Iraq, those bastards, the Muslims. Them v. us. It’s apparently a very strong meme in the human psyche, and an easy one to evoke when deemed necessary.

    2. NON- I have read many articles by Dr. Williams. He is an Economics professor at George Mason University. I think he has alot of good ideas and seems very intelligent when it comes to the economy. As for the e-mail, and what was quoted(?) by Dr. Williams, what exactly do you find to be aimed at dumbing down America?

  3. I really should apologize to UTF….I am a reactionary little jerk who fires first and asks question later, but, perhaps in the context of our reality, this is a positive character trait.
Great post, NON, it resounds with a lot of the ideas I have had about the outcome of 2012 as far as the real theorists of the conservative intellects would dare to project.
As far as the points of this particular post by mudrake:
    1. the state of the republican party? a rather bizarre and perverse circular firing squad. Rather fascinating. You go guys. By the way, did you know that Mitt Romney speaks French? Asked by a fellow French speaker, Newt Gingrich…a man who refuses to recognize that he should have changed his Depends years ago.
    2. Joe The Plumber? to quote Nelson Muntz, “Ha haaaaaa!”
    3. Warren Buffets offer? I reiterate my quote by the eminent philosopher, Nelson Muntz…..
    4. Why don’t the Republican candidates talk about Matthew 5:3? Because Envy of the rich in their eyes is an even bigger sin.
    5. Joe Scarborough is even, as each day goes by, more irrelevant and out of touch with his imagined audience. Media in America is about to radically change. Watch what happens with the SOPA internet bill, they are all running scared. The NY Times made the mistake of questioning the role of mainstreams news and it’s responsibility to report the truth and is and will suffer for it. We are the real news and the real reporters who put their lives on the line and die to bring us the truth are the real heroes. These are the last days for a lot of these jerks.
    6. Iran? Israel? 6000 American soldiers deployed in Israel in an election year to assuage the supposed threat of Irans Nuclear capability? Perfect politics by a Vulcan level 11 chess master who happens to be the president of the USA.

  4. Let,s skip down to the only matter of substance …
#8. Israelis obviously assassinated the Iran nuclear scientist.
Yep, that’s a possibility … but there are others.
How about an internal assassination … would the Iranians be willing to use him to blame America, the UK and Israel … and also send a message to the other scientists. Do we know if maybe he was not following orders, and thus expendable ?
I guess I have a little problem with thinking that an Israeli could go undercover in the country to perform the killing … even hiring an agent would put them at risk … remember the CIA lost 7 agents when they thought they were hiring Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi, the Jordanian doctor, as an agent (except he was a double agent).
Another possibility is Russia or Pakistan … both nuclear powers and they do not want Iran to join the club (and thus become a threat to other countries, not just Israel.) Remember that Russia and Pakistan have worked with Iran on their nuclear program, so they would know “Who” to kill and “where” would be the easiest to do it.

IMO, the sanctions are having a big effect … Japan has announced that they will cut the imports of Iranian oil … the US has just added three more companies to the list of foreign companies ( from China, Singapore, and UAR) that face sanctions if they continue to support Iran’s oil production. UK credit and financial institutions are now required to cease business relationships and transactions with all Iranian banks, including the Central Bank of Iran … Canada has done the same thing. France has called for its international partners to impose a freeze of Iran’s central banks assets and an oil embargo.

The Obama administration has taken more actions on Iran sanctions than the George W. Bush administration ever did.
Of course, if you listen to the Republican debates, you would never know that …
ROMNEY : We have a nation, which is intent on becoming nuclear. Iran has pursued their — their ambition without having crippling sanctions against them. The president was silent when over a million voices took to the streets in Iran. Voices he should have stood up for and said, we’re supporting you. And he’s — and he’s failed to put together a plan to show Iran that we have the capacity to remove them militarily from their plans to have nuclear weaponry.

FactCheck and other sources have already refuted Romney’s assertion that President Obama was silent (yep, Romney’s wrong), but more focus should be given to Romney’s comment regarding sanctions as well as the failure to put up a plan.

Well … so what’s Romney’s plan ? (right from his website)

Implement a Fifth Round of Tougher Sanctions:

Sanctions are not ends in themselves. They are intended to persuade Iran to change course and abandon its nuclear program. President Obama deserves credit for pushing for a fourth round of international sanctions on Iran early in his term, just as before him President Bush deserved credit for the three previous rounds. But time has shown that existing sanctions have not led the ayatollahs to abandon their nuclear aspirations. We therefore need to ratchet up our pressure on Iran with a fifth round of sanctions targeted at the financial resources that underpin the Iranian regime and its Revolutionary Guard Corps, focusing on restrictions on the Central Bank of Iran, as well as other financial institutions. We should place sanctions on all business activities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which include much of Iran’s petroleum industry. To stanch the flow of the petroleum commerce that supports the Iranian regime, we should pursue sanctions on firms that transport such products to and from Iran.

Ideally, these sanctions would be implemented through the U.N. Security Council, but persuading Russia and China to go along might prove impossible. In the absence of a U.N. imprimatur, the United States should be ready to take action in conjunction with as many willing governments as possible. And if necessary, we should be prepared to act on our own. To that end, Mitt Romney will step up enforcement of existing U.S. laws that bar commerce with Iran, such as the exportation of refined petroleum products to Iran.

This is from the Romney website with bolding added by me. So if I read this right, Romney praises Obama and then acknowledges that sanctions might be impossible to result in change. Yet, Obama just added a Chinese company to the sanctions list, so Obama’s message is being sent … China get on board.

Romney is so grossly unqualified to be Commander-in-Chief … and what should be even scarier is who will he select as his VP (and if elected for DoD and State) … and I wonder if anyone will be reviewing all those Bain investments to find out if they had dealings with Iran (don’t be surprised,)

Oh, and if Obama really wants a Scarbough “Game Over”, Simpson-Bowles would put pressure on Dems as well as the GOP, so that may help him but hurt his party, so that is doubtful … instead the “Game Over” should be a demand that in 90 days he be given authority to consolidate the Commerce Department … it is forgotten that Obama asked for consolidation for the Department of Education, but so far Chairman John Kline (R-MN-02) has failed to request a vote … the reality is that the GOP does not want to do anything that could be seen as Obama governing successfully. Obama proposed that on Friday and already some are balking …
