Sit-com as Reality TV

The year ends tonight, thankfully. Yet sadly,  there’s an entire year of presidential politics ahead in 2012. Sigh! Should we be paying that much homage to the election of our president as to spend 6 months the year before and 11 more during the year of the election? Seventeen months? Gasp!

It was an entertaining 6 months, though.  The GOP primary battles provided a new genre of television viewing:  sit-com as reality TV. Unfortunately for many members of the once-Grand Old Party, they did not view it as sit-com at all. To them, it was the real deal. Seriously? Raise your hand if, at the outset, you saw the GOP debates as a circus act. The clown car.

I think back on Michelle Bachmann’s infamous line that he hoped to ‘make Barack Obama a one-term president. Yesterday a dozen Iowans showed up at one of her rallies. She’s gone.  As was The Donald and his birther nonsense. Herman Cain and his women trumping the 9-9-9 idiocy. Rick Perry couldn’t count to three. Newt attempting to portray himself as something other than the bitter losing Speaker of the House of yesteryear. Yeesh!

Of course, each of these contenders rose like a rocket in popularity with the right-wing base of the GOP in hopes that he or she would put that uppity Obama in his place. As their rocket ran out of fuel, they fell like a dead duck. Yet, there was another waiting for his turn on the rocket ship. Up, down, up, down. They don’t call them the reactionary right for nothing. Pitiful inattention to substance.  Just think of the comparison of each of these failures to President Obama There is no comparison, but in the minds of the reactionary far-right, they grabbed for anybody they could, regardless of intelligence, wisdom and thoughtfulness.

On Tuesday there will be little relief in this non-stop spectacle of idiocy. Perhaps there will be one less clown in the car, but still there will be enough left to continue on with the Shakespearean tragedy. One by one they will fall, yet this will go on until July when it all ends at the GOP convention.   Does America have enough patients for all of this? I seriously doubt it.  I for one will not.

Happy New Year!

  1. M_R, Obama does not have a primary fight on his hands not because of
his failed Presidency, but because of the very clowns you mention in the
GOP. I have no doubt that Obama is a good man, understands the needs of
people, is intelligent, and is compassionate. But, his major legislative
enactments are failures. Think about this, M_R, his supposed large presidential achievements in the domestic area are the stimulus, the Financial
Reform Act, and the two year wasted Health Care Reform Act. Now, ask
yourself this, does he or any one in his Administration or the Dems in Congress pride themselves on these Bills? Please stop insulting us with these
defenses of a failed Presidency just because he is half afro-american.
He has no challengers, because the Democratic Left is afraid that if they
would challenge him, one of the GOP clowns just might make it in a close
election. So, Obama gets a bye. As I said before, Obama gets my vote
only because there is no other choice and because of appointments to
the Supreme Court.. There could be easily three apointments to the
Supreme Court in the next four years. This is where the liberal support
of Obama ought to be centered to ensure the election of Justices that
will re-invigorate the American Dream and re-instill democracy and
the protection of civil rights for all citizens.
that voted for these Bills tell the public how great these Bills are?

    1. UptheFlag states: Please stop insulting us with these
defenses of a failed Presidency just because he is half afro-american

Surely you jest, my friend. His race/ethnicity has nothing to do with my ‘defense’ of Obama. I know that you are just joking, but the rest of the readers of this blog might think differently about you and this statement.

      UptheFlag: Obama gets my vote
only because there is no other choice and because of appointments to
      the Supreme Court..

      Bingo!

UptheFlag: This is where the liberal support
of Obama ought to be centered to ensure the election of Justices that
will re-invigorate the American Dream and re-instill democracy and
the protection of civil rights for all citizens.

Exactly, and, if you think about this initiative, isn’t it exactly what a president ought to do for The People?

  2. LOL, my dear friend…I was three sheets to the wind yesterday when I wrote
it…Returning from Manhattan New York and not paying $20 for a Manhattan
cocktail, I made my own yesterday afternoon. Had about 3 to many, so I am
in the proverbial doghouse here. And, have had this terrible head cold and
not able to sleep. Tell you what though, I fell into bed at 7 and never woke
to 3 in the morning, lol, and that didn’t help matters either. So today, I am
the obedient puppy obeying every order of its mistress….

  3. Happy New Year everyone.
UTF- You are correct bud. Obama is a failed experiment. Unfortunately, I do not wish to start another back and forth war on Mud’s blog. So, in that regard, please make sure to exercise your vote this year. What a wonderful right.
