Governance by Swirly

Three hundred million Americans got a swirly from a little over 400 members of Congress.  Nearly flushed away! Held hostage by a clutch of pirates masquerading as civil servants. Sadly, we pay them just under $200K for their pranks and bag of tricks.

Pathetic.  No, worse- criminal!

  1. I blame the entire mess on the Low Information Voter. Seems some of them are now deleting comments that point out their misinformation.

    1. That is the definition of “ignorance”, Jeff;

the state or fact of being ignorant : lack of knowledge, education, or awareness.

ignorant–destitute of knowledge or education ; also : lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified.

  2. Low Information Voters has always been a problem for a democracy. The second problem is the no-show voter as in those who did not go to the polls in 2010 which allowed the right-wing to take over the governorships of many states. What good is a ‘democracy’ if The People cannot be trusted to make informed decisions?

  3. But, they have the freedom to not vote!

Seriously, BBC’s Forum had the piece on Elites. There are ways that people can be disenfranchised in a democracy, which is what is happening in the US. First off, some states have “closed” primaries meaning that only those registered to a party can vote for the candidates in that party’s primary. Likewise, the Democrats and Republicans have the system pretty tied up so that third parties cannot effectively run either in State or National primaries.

We can take astroturf phenomenon such as the “Tea Party”, but that is so heavily propped up by the Koch Brothers and Rupert Murdoch (and other unnamed billionaires) as to be a farce. But that phantom backing is what allows for that astroturfed movement to have any effect on the political arena.

Note how the debate in the Debt Ceiling Melodrama was coming strongly from the right rather than the left. A good segment of the information was withheld from the American public, even on the “public” media. Little mention was made of how the US came to be in the mess it was in. Even less was made of the fact that this happened during Obama’s administration.

Of course, Barack Obama is as much of a stooge of the right as is sepp.

  4. In my opinion, Obama could have broken the Tea Party and a large segment
of the GOP. He ought to have said, “make my day! Don’t pass the debt limit clean and you will be responsible for our heroic soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan,
and all around the world for not being paid and losing their support for their
wives and children, for veterans injured in the defense of this country, and for
seniors not receiving their social security. I will veto any debt limit with amendments attached to it.” But, we have a rag for a leader….

  5. Better yet. He can still take the high ground since the histrionics surrounding the debt limit still produced a negative impact on the economy.

Look at the situation with the FAA! Let’s just cripple air transit in the US!

  6. Yes, Obama is a stooge and is primarily interested in his reelection. He missed the opportunity to look ‘presidential’ yesterday as the 535 members of Congress bolted DC for the ‘rest of the summer.’ Rather than standing in front of Capitol Hill and asking where the ‘jobs’ legislation is, he bolted to Chicago for a fund-raiser. How pathetic!

  7. There is also a leadership deficit in the US, but no one in their right mind wants to run for political office due to the scrutiny placed upon their private life. Additionally, there is a significant amount of money required to run. As well as the tweedledee-tweedledum parties having a lock on the electoral process.

  8. Hello All,
As we passed this bill, it was all of the uncertainty leading up to it that has the world financial markets still down grading the U.S.’s long term financial outlook. There is still more to come with the Super Panel of 12 and once again the Über Stupid Tea Party members are coming with the tunnel vision of looking at the causes and effects of their actions.

Allow me reiterate, we have kept our AAA rating for now but long term finical outlook has already been degraded for future financial funding. This is not just government, but for the private sector too that would need to borrow to expand production, purchase equipment, and hire new people, etc. Yes the Teabaggers have destroyed job growth long term for this country by letting the rest of the world know how unstable and uncertain they would in having their loans in the U.S. of being repaid.

Bet they were not thinking of jobs with their latest “Spoiled Child Temper Tantrum” in the House. They have done nothing but shown the rest of the world how unpredictable and unstable they are with their financial irresponsibility.

It is now predicted that this depression will now just go deeper and longer with this current bill just passed.

I learned a new military acronym the other day. Where we use to say SNAFU….it is now BOHICA. (Bend Over Here It Comes Again)

Thank You Tea Party for destroying any hopes of us coming out of this Depression anytime soon…..Irresponsible Bastards!!!

This being said, I am none too happy with President Obama. I think Laci has said it well, “The tweedledee-tweedledum parties having a lock on the electoral process.

  9. Hopeless quite describes my vision of the next several years—unless The People decide that they have had enough. However, that too is a dim prospect as history shows us. It seems that we Americans tolerate, tolerate and tolerate even more before we decide that enough is enough. My fear is that by the time that the citizens have realized that they have been had [once again] it may be too late to save themselves from economic ruin.

  10. OMG – Obama a “stooge?” I thought he was your Messiah!?!

Just look at what he’s accomplished (from Thursday’s The Washington Times):

“Consider the results thus far of the Obama presidency:
    * Two million-private sector jobs have been lost.
    * Unemployment jumped from 7.8 to 9.2 percent with a simply terrible 2011 first-quarter economic growth rate of just 0.4 percent.
    * A record 1 in 7 Americans is on food stamps.
    * Gasoline prices more than doubled, from $1.83 to $3.74 per gallon.
    * National debt increased 35 percent, to $14.5 trillion, or $137,000 for each taxpayer.
    * National unfunded liabilities increased 47 percent, to $114.9 trillion, or a cool $1 million for each taxpayer (and this does not yet include Obamacare).
    * America is on the verge of losing its AAA credit rating.”

Read the whole thing by Obama’s Cousin at:

No doubt you consider this President George W. Bush’s fault.

Cloward and Piven are dancing a jig. Why can’t you share their joy?

  11. No, Common Sense, it is primarily a GOP fault, with Dems and Obama
contributing. And, a lot of the unemployment is coming from the lay offs
at the State and Local levels due to GOP control of governorships and state

  12. LOL – yes, there are a significant number of government lay-offs in the offing. About 40% of the Federal government workers have to get real jobs too.

What does “uptheflag” mean – you another America hater?

  13. UptheFlag- the comment above proves the point that we have been discussing over and over again on this blog. …you another America hater?

Tea Party ideologue, as if you didn’t know.

Mr. Common Sense runs a right-wing blog and does not accept any comments which do not toe the Tea Party agenda– just like the real Tea Party members who held Obama and Boehner hostage last week.

Mr. Common Sense let me post a few comments on his blog, then summarily dismissed me because he was backed into his ideological corner and could not escape. At that point he did what all adolescents do- he shouted insults and did what he did to your comment above– question my patriotism.

Mr. Common Sense, you see, knows what it is to be a ‘good’ American. He has the answer, the mold, the model in his head. Fixed in stone. Don’t confuse him with queries of the kind we ask on this blog.

Mr. Common Sense knows it all.

Mr. Common Sense stated, About 40% of the Federal government workers have to get real jobs Once again, he knows what a REAL job is. He probably ha a REAL job. Not a mythical job, not an imaginary job like government workers. He knows REAL when he sees it.

Mr. Common Sense claims on his blog to have been a Marine. Thus, he knows what a REAL government job is. I wonder if all former Marines hide behind their service and exploit their service for personal enhancement? Do REAL Marines do that?

  14. Very succinct Mr. Mud and wrong as usual. I would love for you to speak with our local TEA movement leaders and see the response to your accusation that I am a “TEA Party ideologue.” — They would laugh in your face. Were you to get out of your bumper-sticker liberal mentality you would see that.

You had nothing of value to contribute and forced me to moderate my blog (as you do here – what about freedom Mud?). You are a rock-thrower and when you don’t get what you want you get nasty. That doesn’t contribute anything and it isn’t “discussion” – it’s grade school name calling.

I didn’t expect anything here – I was just curious. Just as on the other sites you visit you don’t provide any facts or original ideas – just personal attacks.

I don’t fit conveniently into your “left-wing” and “right-wing” world, but you have me pigeon-holed.

    My curiosity is satisfied.

  15. Why am I reading your comment????

Where are the comments I left on your blog????

    Curious stuff, CS. Very curious.
