Adam and Eve Way Older Than Thought

They both aged some 3 million years in the past few weeks.  Looks like Adam and Eve are 8 million years old rather than 5 million.  Time does pass quickly.

ScienceDaily (Nov. 5, 2010) — Evolutionary divergence of humans from chimpanzees likely occurred some 8 million years ago rather than the 5 million year estimate widely accepted by scientists, a new statistical model suggests.

The revised estimate of when the human species parted ways from its closest primate relatives should enable scientists to better interpret the history of human evolution, said Robert D. Martin, curator of biological anthropology at the Field Museum.

  1. Hello Muddy,
I was watching Jeopardy last night and the final question was, “What was the latest 12 to 13 million year old fossil of a Sperm Whale named?” Answer: “Leviathan melvillei”

Of course the thought that instantly went through my mind was how many of the Fundamental Religious Right will not longer consider Jeopardy a “family show” from offering this “Science Based” question and answer.

    Science Fact:
In the Pisco Ica Desert on the southern coast of Peru, has turned out to be the final resting place of an ancient sperm whale with teeth much bigger than those of the largest of today’s sperm whales. The fossil, dated at 12–13 million years old, and belongs to a new, but extinct, genus and species. Named “Leviathan melvillei,” it probably hunted baleen whales.

The name given to the whale fossil combines the Hebrew word “Livyatan,” which refers to large mythological sea monsters, with the name of American novelist Herman Melville, who penned Moby Dick (one of my favorite books), per the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.

Yes another blow to the Fundamental Religious Right’s “Creation Museum of Nihilistic Lies.” But their silliness can still claim Tea Party victories in Kentucky and Ohio to keep them happy for a while until that blows up in thier faces too.
