Poll: Majority of Americans Losing Faith in Obama

“Majority of Americans losing faith in Obama: poll, hope GOP takes control of Congress in November.”

Yikes!  Can we all say together, “DUMBED-DOWN!” Hope GOP takes control of Congress.  God help us!

Apparently those who voted President Obama into office thought he was the second begotten son of God.  How nincompoopish!  What fools!  After two years in office, they want to dump him and the Democrats and go back to the Bush-Cheney years.  Does America have dementia? Are we an ADD  society?

I don’t get it. When we elected him in 2008 I had hope once again- hope that Americans were becoming more intelligent, more careful in their political decisions.  But, apparently not.  That lasted 16 months.  Now they are willing to throw him under the bus and the Democrats along with him.

What is it that these people want?  I can’t figure it out.  Did they truly expect another Jesus? A magician? Superman?

At least he has two more years before they decide his fate, but this Fall, they may give control of Congress back to Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Joe Barton and all of the old cronies who helped fuel the  George Bush train wreck!

We truly are an adolescent society and nowhere near maturity yet. Who can imagine giving control back to the Do-Nothing GOP Party?  It borders on manslaughter!

  1. It’s funny, in that I just read that headline not more than a minute ago – just the headline flashing from fox news on Google news. Fox news is always slagging the president like he is a King or something. Which really calls to mind the far right mindset.. the mindset that fixates on a “Leader”, “Sovereign”, “Savior”. One aspect of history is how the conservative mindset always clung to the idea of the king in the face of progress and revolution – from the Russian Whites, the Contenental Tory. Amazingly England still has a monarchy! I just saw the movie “the Queen” a few weeks ago on DVD, and what struck me is how politicians and especially the Queen are hyper aware of their role in society as a point of mass scapegoating; a social relief valve to disperse all our fears and anger at situations beyond our control. A similar kind of politico – religious – psychosis exists with God and the Devil.

I remember the old sunday school song:

“And if the Devil doesn’t like it. He can sit on a tack! Ouch! Sit on a tack to stay! And I’m so happy. So very happy. I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart”

I think for the Fox news crowd Obama has assumed the role of quasi Devil. Even for the population at large… He’s the reason why the Golf oil disaster happened.. he should have responded quicker.. ect.. ect.. Not the fact that BP has decades of history of shirking regulatory responsibility and as a matter of company policy short shrifts safety regs every chance they can get away with.

(I can see the gears spinning in Sep’s head about Bush vis / vis Katrina…)

  2. The problem was that Obama was annointed before the moment he spoke at the 2004 Democratic Convention. Sort of like my boss telling me in 1988 that the slimebag I had just met, Tony Blair, would someday be PM.

I have a friend in the US media who handles political advertising. He confirmed one of my suspicions, which is the reason US elections last forever.

    Money.

    Now is that a surprise?

But the real issue is that it takes so much money to run for elected office in the US that only people who are acceptable to the Powers that Be are going to run for office. It is incredibly hard for an Amazing Mrs. Pritchard to happen in the US (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Mrs_Pritchard). Well, it didn’t really happen in the UK either, but the point is that it would be very hard for a candidate from the “people” to run for office in the US.

Between the money and the media, he wouldn’t stand a chance.

  3. Steve- (I can see the gears spinning in Sepp’s head about Bush vis / vis Katrina…)

Interesting because, when I posted this, I was sure that Sepp would pounce on the story with his usual point of view.

Steve- One aspect of history is how the conservative mindset always clung to the idea of the king in the face of progress and revolution –

So, do you think that they saw this ‘king’ in GW Bush? I know that the fundamentalist [c]hristians thought he was at least the cousin of God, if not the 2nd son.

Laci- thus, we are doomed as a nation in that only the well-connected, well-financed become ‘leaders’ of this nation. I note that Sarah is amassing a considerable sum of $$$ for her 2012 bid. God save us from that horror story!!

  4. Muddy, it was an Washington Post/ABC News poll…NOT foxnews. Just because Fox also reported it doesent make it any less credible. I read it on yahoo.
So people who think he’s doing a shitty job are dumb but, people who think he’s doing a shitty job…and still support what he does are enlightened?
You sound like a Bush supporter circa 2005!

And yes people want to replace congress…why? Because ever since the democrats gained power, they got drunk with it!
Drunk to the point where they all stopped believing that the people who put them in office should have any voice at all and simply ignored them!
Look at Marcy Kaptur for a local example. She was IN Toledo but, decided to skip her townhall meetings and have her constituency assemble to listen to a speaker on a table pontificate to them! Too elite to rub elbows with the unwashed masses!
People are simply getting tired of this shit.
When you elect someone to speak for you…and they disregard you and speak for themselves, they should be replaced!
Don’t blame the voter for being a fool, blame the politician!

The poll also stated that the majority of the pollees want congress replaced to COUNTER Obama’s agenda…which means that it’s being rejected by the populace.
Other polls stated that up to 80% want his healthcare plan repealed…not modified but, repealed! Why?
Because his entire term to date has revolved around increasing governmental power and control.
People who thought that Bush was bad thought an answer might lie with Obama. Two years into this, they’re finding that not only is Obama continuing with Bush’s b.s., he’s EXPANDING it!

Odd though that you hated Bush for his doings…and refer to those who see the same crap going on now and complain about it, as fools!

Laci, you’re right on the money…it’s all about cash and influence peddling. Policy sold to the highest bidder!

  5. Muddy, of course I would pounce on this. All the latest polls validate much of what I’d said for a long time.
The honeymoon is over and, even though the American people seem asleep at the wheel sometimes…they DO wake up eventually and not like what they see in the road in front of them!

As for the tags “messiah”, “the one” and, seeing Obama as the 2nd comming (and other jesus type monikers), those quotes are from Louis Farrakhan! Other jesus-like tags came from Rev Wright before he was tossed under a bus!

  6. Let’s not get crazy. Obama’s approval is still 50%, with his disapproval at 47%. And the Democrats are still polling higher than the GOP. Despite the bat-shit crazy wingnuts.

  7. Sepp- And yes people want to replace congress…why? Because ever since the democrats gained power, they got drunk with it!

Just to keep it fresh in your mind, Sepp, the Senate has 57 Dems, 2 independents who caucus with dems 57 +2 = 59. Most appropriations need 60 votes in the Senate. Got the math?

Sepp- Other polls stated that up to 80% want his healthcare plan repealed…not modified but, repealed! Why?

That was a poll taken within a Tea Party gathering.

Sepp- Two years into this, they’re finding that not only is Obama continuing with Bush’s b.s., he’s EXPANDING it!

Give 3 or 4 examples, please, and Afghanistan doesn’t count.

  8. Steve, Laci, and Sepp: The Washington Post Poll figures are something like negative 54% for Obama, negative 67% for Democrats, AND negative 73% for Republicans. If Obama and the Democrats are in trouble, the Republicans are lost. At least Obama and Democrats have had a program, the Republicans have nothing. They have only talking
points like support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and support Israel in whatever she wants to do, and domestically all they want to do is retain the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy which helped percepitate this great recession and provide more across the board tax cuts in every department, but the pentagon. The problems facing this country are massive, and symbolic tax cuts to the wealthy is not policy.

As to money in elections, of course, it is important. I could hide behind that statement. Back in the early 1990s I ran as a Democrat for the MS State Legislature. I was defeated, but not due to money. I’m a transplated “damn yankee” in the deep South bible belt…and I was Catholic in a Baptist fundamentalist area…and I was divorced..and lived in a highly Republican district, and the incumbent had served for 20 years. I’m proud to have made the run and met people who still come to me and ask if I want to try again. It was not money that defeated me. I think that our history will show that there have been many people elected based on their strength of character and the politics of the time.
Perhaps, the recent Supreme Court ‘s recent decision will make money more of a deciding issue.

  9. Hello Uptheflag,
I have always had respect with what you write and post but today it has become exponential from this posting alone. I am of the exact mind set and could not have said it better. I wish you all the luck in the world and may nothing but good things happen to you in the future.

  10. Yes, UptheFlag, you were a ‘damned Yankee’ and a liberal Catholic one too! No wonder you went down to defeat!! They’ll have none of THAT in Mississippi!!! They’re stuck in their post-Civil War mindset and happy to wallow in the muck along with their other Confederate pals.

  11. I think Sepp has a point. The democrats were elected to fight for the voters / people at large.. because that is what Democrats claim to do. So people expected the Democrats to come out swinging. But so far, they have been completely mamby pamby – President Obama included. General Patton… er… George C Scott said it best – “America Loves a Winner, and Will not tolerate a loser.” And the Democrats just seem like a bunch of out of touch eggheads. The people wanted blood, not bailouts and technocratic mumbo jumbo. So the voters are thinking that at least with the Republicans they know what they are getting. But the great thing about today’s Republican party is that they are so radical and out of touch.. that they will just shoot themselves in the foot once power is achieved and wreck things even more.. because modern Republicans do not believe in governing.. so they are completely incompetent at it.. So even if they achieve power once again.. their actions will just drive the country even more to the left the next election cycle. The average person doesn’t give a crap about republicans or democrats, or this ism, or that ism.. they just want a job, and a means of supporting their families. American’s really aren’t all that political.. until events force them to be political.. such as Republican incompetence.. which is as sure as the sun will rise.

  12. Steve- because modern Republicans do not believe in governing.. so they are completely incompetent at it.. So even if they achieve power once again.. their actions will just drive the country even more to the left the next election cycle.

This is correct albeit sheer terror! There is a limit, you know, to just how far ‘off the cliff’ a nation can be driven and I cannot imagine this nation living through two full years of that terror!!

Poet- I hope that you are correct as I click my ruby slippers and make a wish 3 times.
