The Gaza Freedom Flotilla

One headline on CNN this morning reads, Israeli soldier: They beat us Duh!  Who wouldn’t? The hard-core, right-wing Israelis are among the most ignorant people on the planet.  Whoever thought of the ‘plan’ to send commandos down onto that Turkish ship needs to have his mouth duck-taped for life.

The Christian Science Monitor posted this comment:  “It’s the military failure combined with the international damage. Most people could live with that if it had been done successfully,” says Tom Segev, a leading Israeli historian. “It’s not that people are angry that people in Gaza are hungry. It was an operation that was ill-conceived and didn’t go well enough. They hate when things go wrong.”

A historian? What ‘history’ is Mr. Segev reading? What an imbecile.

“It’s not that people are angry that people in Gaza are hungry…”  Is this really the case?  Israelis don’t give a damn about the hungry people of Gaza?  But they worry about ‘things going wrong?’

How barbaric.  How biblical.

  1. The Isrealis were blockading the ports due to what? Weapons being shipped in?
And, the Isrealis made it clear that the “peace flotilla” would be allowed to proceed AFTER it was inspected and no weapons discovered.

Instead, the “peace flotilla” flouted the inspection and, Isreal did what ANY other country would do…they boarded the vessels.

The “peace-loving” folks on board attacked the Isrealis as they came aboard.

So, why would those folks CHOOSE to oppose the order for inspection when the bigger issue was getting aid into Gaza? Be inspected and get the stuff through or, act belligerant and no aid gets through?

The shortcut to thinking is to just blame Isreal and omit the bigger picture altogether.
If the important issue was meds for Gazans, I’d say that being inspected would constitute a minor inconvenience.

  2. Sepp- What did the Israeli commandos find on the ship? The only ‘wapons’ were those of the Israelis.

The “peace-loving” folks on board attacked the Isrealis as they came aboard.

And you would have stood there with a bouquet of flowers?

  3. Sepp just sucks up the Israeli spin and spits it in your face…

This is just the beginning. This is the Gaza Freedom Summer…like the Mississippi Freedom Summer…
Just like in 1964, the Freedom Riders knew it was a dangerous situation.
It was meant to provoke then and it was meant to provoke now!
You are inured to the plight of the Palestinians, who cares if they are crammed into the most densely populated ghetto on the planet?
The Israelis have to kill a few hundred kids because they have to get the Hamas terrorists and it’s like, okay, they do what they have to do…
Well maybe you have to see white people put their bodies on the line and get killed for it to make a dent in your skull.
There were Holocaust survivors on the boats. There were a few famous writers on the boats. One of them might be a victim, but you won’t know until the Israelis want you to know, when they figure the noise has died down enough. They consfiscated all of the cameras and cell phones. The only thing on the western news, your news is the infra red video of the brave Israelis meeting resistance after they opened fire first when they were boarding.

The israelis are playing their 6 degrees of Al Qaeda game…in other words any one who has sympathy for the Palestinian caiuse is a defacto Al Qaeda sympathizer. It might be working with you…but the rest of the world is disgusted.

  4. and like I know I’m splitting hairs, but it’s been a few years and you have yet to spell Israel or Israeli correctly…I never mentioned it before, but don’t let it happen again, okay?

  5. I’m beginning to suspect that Sepp is a fundamentalist Christian in disguise with his mindless shilling for Israel. Those fundies, you know, need to clean the ‘Holy Land’ of all of the infidels before the Landing Pad can be constructed for the Second Coming.

Lift-off, we have lift-off [as the disappointed Jews watch the ship slip the surley bonds of earth to touch the face of the Christian God.]

    Bye-bye!

  6. I’ve been plenty critical of Izreuhl’s (sic) doings in the past and have never given them a free pass.

“Sepp- What did the Israeli commandos find on the ship? The only ‘wapons’ were those of the Israelis.

You’re right…after the IDF were beaten with clubs, they had their weapons taken!

“And you would have stood there with a bouquet of flowers?”

I’d be pissed at the inconvenience but, when my mission is to get supplies from A to B, I’d be inclined to bite my tongue for the bigger picture and see the supplies through.

How would Captain Muddy and Microdot have handled the situation?
Go through the inspection, get cleared and, get the stuff through to those who need it…
    or,
Try to ram your way through, fight off the Coast guard boarding party…and nobody in Gaza gets anything?

And as history would tell, those folks are lucky that their boats weren’t simply sunk by the IDF.

  7. And as history would tell, those folks are lucky that their boats weren’t simply sunk by the IDF.

And if that were to have come to pass, Israel would be even more hated than they are today, if that is possible.

  8. Very true muddy but, the ball was in the peace flotilla’s court.
Respect the blockade and deliver the supplies…done.
Hating the Jews should have taken the backseat. Now, none of the aid is getting into Gaza.
Is it just easier to simply just blame the jews or, could the peacefull humanitarians taken a different route and NOT started clubbing the IDF?

We have nothing to hide, we have no weapons on board…ok, well in the past weapons HAVE been delivered via “humanitarian” relief so, we’ll just make sure.

I’ll bet the Gazans are wishing the idiots on the boat would have just STFU, went through the motions and gotten the aid through!

  9. “Hating the Jews should have taken the backseat. Now, none of the aid is getting into Gaza.
Is it just easier to simply just blame the jews or, could the peacefull humanitarians taken a different route and NOT started clubbing the IDF?”

Why is this about “hating the Jews?” There were Jews on the boat and there are Jews on the Irish boat that is on its way now!
You comment about “the easier route” makes it absolutely, crystal clear to me that you just don’t get it!

I will most certainly admit and I made that statement in my comment above that this was a deliberate provocation. It was a non violent provocation and Israel could have responded many ways, but they chose this response using their crack commandos who started firing as before they boarded the ship and from what is coming out of Israel now, in their own press and from the heads of Israeli security, this will be the end of Netanyahus government and we will see real change.

There is the recorded radio conversations with the captain of the boat, there are some bits of real footage that the Israelis didn’t manage to suppress and the real testimony of those who are beginning to be released to validate this. Last night, I saw an interview with the ex US Ambassador to Malawi, Edward Peck, who was seized on the ship who backed up all of the claims of the intitiation of violence by the Israeli commandos.

There are thousands of volunteers now ready to put their asses on the line to back up their passion. They are coming from all walks of life and belief. You can bet your life, no perhaps that is a little too strong for you, you can count on it that there will be many Jews who are on board.

  10. The pro-Israel Lobby was out if full force yesterday with video showing just how ‘badly the commandos were beaten’ by the ‘radical extreme Jahadists’ who wanted to confront the ‘peaceful’ IDF forces- the forces who ‘only carried paintball guns!’

Yes, paintball guns. Of course they ‘also had sidearms.’

It was a great study in propaganda techniques and a useful lesson for history teachers who wish to show their students the power of propaganda in influencing public opinion.

‘They were armed!’ said one of the Israeli lobbyists. “They had knives, iron pipes and sticks! They wanted a confrontation!”

Such drivel, yet surely it was effective on the millions of dumbed-down Americans who already have been propagandized into hating Muslims.

  11. Sepp- I’ll bet the Gazans are wishing the idiots on the boat would have just STFU, went through the motions and gotten the aid through!

No. Rather, YOU wish that the ‘idiots’ on the boat would have not confronted the IDF in such an idiotic spectacle.

Don’t transfer YOUR ideas and thoughts onto others.

  12. Trust me MD, I get it. My focus is on the far more important issue of the aid getting through as opposed to the political game of crashing the blockade as a media stunt.
So we have the israelis wanting to verify no offensive weapons are being smuggled and then, the “freedom flotilla” bragging to the press that “they will not be boarded or inspected and will crash the blockade” and then we have the Gazans being used as political pawns.

  13. Muddy, you’re absolutely right. I DO wish the Gazans would have gotten the aid as opposed to getting nothing!
Focus muddy focus! The aid getting through or, the political posturing…which of the two matters to the folks on the ground? I’m certain they’d prefer to be unloading food and meds at the docks as opposed to seeing the freedom flotilla trying to score points in the media.

LOL…”Don’t transfer YOUR ideas and thoughts onto others.”

THATS liberalism muddy, I thought that you’d like my conforming!

  14. Or me? Hardly.
I understand the Israelis demand for security where Gaza is concerned AND, I believe that the Gazans should also be treated as humans at the same time. Gaza is what I have called many times is over nothing more than an open air concentration camp.
Aid should be flowing into Gaza as fast as the world can send it WITHOUT politicizing the people in the process.
Unfotunately, there are too many entities who are more than willing to exploit the Gazans for political gain.

  15. Well, on the other side of the pond, watching the discussion and the spin in international news, The Israeli defense is being mounted at this point intime for the American media. That is the only audience who matters and can be manipulated by them.
Even Bernard Kouchner who infuriates me with his knee jerk pro Israeli and ridiculous inane rhetoric has condemned this. I was “taken aback” I must say.
This incident was used to exploit the Gazans for political gain?
It depends as to how you define political gain…
I think, from what I have seen in the non American Press, there was political gain and it was welcomed by all of Gaza. This was for them. They know it.
It was a ray of hope. The knowing that there is a world community who cares about them and their plight passionately. It was a ray of hope that will expand into a blast of blinding light.
Sepp, I appreciate your attempt to explain how you feel towards Palestine. This is just the beginning, or is it the end of the beginning?

  16. You “nailed” nothing as a peek into your old website’s archives will tell you what my position has been all along and unchanged.

My axe with the flotilla is that under the guise of bringing aid they were pulling a political stunt via the media…meanwhile people in Gaza were expecting supplies.
The Iraelis had said the ships would be permitted to pass AFTER inspection while the flotilla fools openly stated they would defy the blockade KNOWING the IDF wouldn’t tolerate it and did it obviously to provoke a reaction.
To what means? Show the world that the Gazans are stuck in a warsaw ghetto? The world already knows it muddy.

Should the Israelis simply allow all vessels enter Gaza unchecked? It seems that anytime they have, the “aid” turned out to be rockets and mortars. The hungry and the sick can’t eat those or heal anything with them.

Or, since Israel is obviously a repressive regime toward the Gazans, are you saying they should be allowed to bear arms for their own defense?
The Gazans are sick of the shithole conditions and the Israelis are sick of the rockets being fired at them…so what does muddy think the solution / compromise should be for both?

  17. MD, I have rather seen Gazans unloading a boatload of supplies than a political circus aimed at creating an Israeli over reaction.
Their plight has been well known for years and was by far no secret to the world at all.
The Gazans lose favor in world oppinion when they launch rocket attacks daily into Israel. People begin to question how they can always obtain rockets and mortars and never food and meds.
The Israelis lose favor by going overboard in the force they use to avenge the rocket barrages. Using white phosphorus on a civilian area is inexcusable for any country.
In this lose-lose situation, merely making political jabs is less than an answer to the core problem.
